Demon Deacons Blitz Wolfpack

WINSTON-SALEM, NC (Arena Sportsnet Wire) 21 first quarter points doomed the North Carolina State Wolfpack and the #23 Wake Forest Demon Deacons (7-1, 3-1 ACC) beat N.C. State 44-10.

Jamie Newman opened the scoring with a 20-yard touchdown run.  Then Jake Freudenthal caught a five-yard touchdown pass and Newman crashed over from two yards out and before you could blink, Wake Forest was up 21-0 before the first quarter completed.

N.C. State (4-4, 1-3 ACC) answered with a 3-yard TD pass from Devin Leary to Cary Angeline and a 40-yard FG in the 2nd stanza from Christopher Dunn but were down 34-10 at intermission.

The Deacs scored 10 points early in the 3rd quarter to close the scoring.

Jamie Newman led the Wake Forest offense by going 25-of-38 for 287 yards, three passing TDs and no interceptions while Kenneth Walker rushed for 56 yards on 18 attempts.

Jake Freudenthal caught four passes for 16 yards, but three of those catches were for touchdowns.

Leary was the passing leader for the Pack going 17-of-45 for 149 yards and a TD pass.  Jordan Houston paced the running attack with 48 yards on 11 carries.

Next Saturday, the Wolfpack return to Carter-Finley Stadium to host the #4 and defending National Champion Clemson Tigers at 7:30pm ET while the Demon Deacons travel to Blacksburg, VA to face the host Hokies of Virginia Tech next Saturday at 3:30pm ET.
