Titans Come Back and Stun Chiefs; Advance to Divisional Round

(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) The Kansas City Chiefs had lost five straight home playoff games. And here they were at home again hosting the Tennessee Titans.

And once again, the Chiefs lost at home.

Rallying from and 18-point deficit, the Tennessee Titans advance to the AFC Divisional Playoff round with a 22-21 victory over the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium.

Tennessee overcame a 21-3 halftime deficit to emerge from Arrowhead Stadium victorious by a score of 22-21 on Saturday. Second-year running back Derrick Henry rumbled his way to 156 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries, setting the tone for a Titans comeback in the second half with his physical running.

Kansas City saw a promising 10-6 campaign come to an unexpected end with the heartbreaking loss.

The Titans will play either the New England Patriots or Pittsburgh Steelers on the road in the Divisional Round next week depending on the outcome of Sunday’s game between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Henry’s performance helped the Titans, but they also got a lucky bat their way also.

Trailing 21-3, Marcus Mariota engineered the comeback by throwing a touchdown – to himself.

With 6:45 left in the 3rd period and the Titans driving, Mariota took a shotgun snap and danced around in the pocket, ran toward the line of scrimmage to throw a pass, only to have it batted back to him. He made the catch then dove into the end zone.

That made the score 21-10 and the Titans began to believe.

The Titans struck again with a 6-play 62-yard drive bridging the third and fourth quarters with Derrick Henry paying off the drive with a 35-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was no good but, got the Titans closer at 21-16.

After stopping the Chiefs on their next drive, the Titans scored again finishing an 11-play, 80-yard drive with a Mariota 22-yard touchdown pass to Eric Decker for the final tally.

The Titans now advance to the AFC Divisional round and will learn their opponent Sunday afternoon after the Bills/Jaguars game. Arena Sportsnet will continue to provide coverage of the NFL and the NFL Playoffs
