Ramblers Men’s Hoops Announce Non-Conference Schedule

CHICAGO (August 21, 2017) – One year after recording 18 wins, including decisions over programs from the Pac-12 and Mountain West conferences, the Loyola University Chicago men’s basketball team will face nine teams that won 17 or more games a year ago, according to the non-conference schedule announced today by head coach Porter Moser. Six of those teams won 20 games, including Florida, which reached the NCAA Elite Eight, in 2016-17.

“We have put together a very challenging non-conference schedule that will have us prepared for the rigors of Missouri Valley Conference play,” Moser said. “Eight of our 12 opponents advanced to the postseason last year and six won 20 games. We have made it a point to schedule as aggressively as possible and part of that is competing in quality multi-team events like the Savannah Invitational, where we will face three postseason teams from a year ago, two of which reached the NCAA Tournament (UNC Wilmington and Kent State).”

After facing Lewis in an exhibition game on November 2, the Ramblers will raise the curtain on the 100th season of Loyola men’s basketball on November 10 when they host former conference mate Wright State. That game is part of a season-opening stretch that will see Moser’s charges play four of their first five outings at Gentile Arena where they went 13-3 last year, tied for the most home wins in program history.

The Ramblers, who will play eight non-league contests in the opening month of the season, welcome Eureka to Rogers Park (Nov. 12) before venturing out for their first road game of the season at UMKC (Nov. 16), allowing Kansas City area natives Clayton Custer and Ben Richardson to return home. Loyola then heads back to Rogers Park to battle Samford (Nov. 19) and Mississippi Valley State (Nov. 21) as part of on-campus games in the Savannah Invitational, before traveling to Savannah, Georgia for the final two games of the tournament, November 24-25, where it will face a pair of NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago – UNC Wilmington (Nov. 24) and Kent State (Nov. 25).

Loyola continues a busy stretch of games on November 28 when it visits Boise State as part of the Mountain West/Missouri Valley Challenge before returning to Chicago for a home game against city rival UIC (Dec. 2) to open up the month of December.

A game at Florida on December 6 will not only be the first-ever meeting between the Ramblers and Gators, but will also conclude a grueling stretch in which the Ramblers will travel a total of 7,414 miles over 13 days, while playing five contests. Loyola closes out non-conference play with two weekend games, hosting Norfolk State (Dec. 9) before making the short trek north to Milwaukee (Dec. 16) where it will face former Loyola assistant coach Pat Baldwin, who is in his first year as the head coach at Milwaukee.

Loyola returns three starters from last season, including Third Team All-MVC selection Donte Ingram, as well as MVC Sixth Man of the Year Aundre Jackson, in addition to guards Custer and Richardson.

Season tickets are on sale now starting at $160 per seat. Call the Loyola Ticket Office at (773) 508-WOLF for more information.
