Preview of the Cubs 7 game homestand

After a 6 game road trip that ended with a series loss to the Phillies, the Cubs return to Wrigley to start a homestand, which begins with a three game series with the Pirates.  It concludes with a four game weekend series vs the Atlanta Braves.

Pirates are coming off of a series win in Cincinnati.  Cubs will not see Gerrit Cole or Jamison Taillon in this upcoming series.

As many know this year it’s a tight race in the Central and Cubs Pirates no doubt will be interesting.

Mike Montgomery, Jake Arrieta and Jose Quintana will be the starters to face the Pirates.  Trevor Williams, Chad Kuhl and Ivan Nova are going to be the Pirates hurlers.

As usual Josh Bell, Josh Harrison and Andrew McCutchen always fare well in the series.  Recently the Pirates had welcomed back Starling Marte after serving his suspension due to steroid use.  Sean Rodriguez was welcomed back after returning from injury only to be traded from the Braves.

Overall outlook on the homestand:  Cubs need to play much better compared to the recent road trip and gain more ground on Milwaukee and St. Louis.  Despite struggles from a few in the rotation and pen, this team has yet to play it’s best.  Yes it’s an old cliche for the Cubs this year but honestly that needs to happen.  Monday through Tbursday will be 7:05 CT starts at night.  Then there will be 1:20 CT starts for the weekend.  On Sunday evening I’ll give a recap of the homestand.  Cubs will travel to Pittsburgh to face the Pirates in a four game series.  Also by the time we get to Friday the rosters will expand so I’ll cover that as to who will get called up.
