Goal Line Stand Lifts Eagles

PHILADELPHIA – Jalen Mills was stuck to Julio Jones like glue. Just like the Eagles defense in the second half was stuck to the Atlanta Falcons.

Using three field goals from rookie kicker Jake Elliott and a huge goal-line stand in crunch time, the Philadelphia Eagles punched their ticket to the NFC Championship Game next Sunday with a 15-10 win over the then-defending NFC Champion Atlanta Falcons in front of 69,596.

Which means the Eagles will be staying home and welcoming their opponent to Lincoln Financial Field – or “The Linc” as it’s called.

The Falcons had a chance to win. Facing 4th-and-Goal from the 2-yard line, QB Matt Ryan rolled to his right looking for all-pro receiver Julio Jones. Jones fell down in the end zone, got back up, and was within reach, but the ball sailed over his head with Jalen Mills in coverage for the Eagles. Mills spread his arms like wings and flew down the near sideline in celebration.

The Eagles played this game without their injured star QB Carson Wentz. Nick Foles started in his place and completed 23 of 30 passes for 246 yards. He did not throw a touchdown nor an interception. In the losing effort, Matt Ryan completed 22 of 36 passes for 210 yards and a touchdown.
