‘Cats Claw Back After Early Deficit To Beat Reading

Reading, PA – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats fell behind early but responded with eight runs to take down the Reading Fightin’ Phils 8-4 Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium to even the four-game series at one game apiece.

For the second consecutive game, the Fightin’ Phils scored multiple runs in the first. Sean Reid-Foley (W, 9-11) walked the lead-off man then allowed an RBI double to Mitch Walding two batters later to make it 1-0. Walding scored on a two-out single by Damek Tomscha to double the Reading advantage.

The fourth home run of the series thus far for the Phillies affiliate came in the bottom of the third. Kyle Martin took Reid-Foley deep with one out for a solo shot that made it 3-0 Fightin’ Phils after three.

New Hampshire started its comeback in the fourth. The ‘Cats plated a pair with two walks and two hits – including an RBI double from Tim Lopes – that cut the Reading lead to one and made it 3-2.

The Fisher Cats took the lead for good in the fifth. They scored two runs on two hits – which featured an RBI knock by Lourdes Gurriel – to go up 4-3 after five.

In the seventh, Anthony Alford started things with a single, stole second base then scored on a Harold Ramirez RBI base hit. Two more runs would score in that stanza and another came across in the eighth to put New Hampshire up 8-3. Reading scored once in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t muster any further offense as the ‘Cats triumphed 8-4.

Dusty Isaacs pitched a scoreless inning of relief and Daniel Young went the rest of the way to secure the victory.

The third game of the series is set for Wednesday night. RHP Conner Greene (5-10, 5.36 ERA) is on the bump for New Hampshire while LHP Elniery Garcia (2-0, 1.40 ERA) will go for Reading. First pitch is slated for 6:35 p.m. and can be heard locally on AM 610 WGIR or online via iHeartRadio and the MiLB First Pitch app.
