The Chicago Blackhawks are only 9 days away from starting their 92nd year as a proud original 6 franchise, some observations from the preseason so far.

As we get closer to the regular season opener in Ottawa the Blackhawks may be going through a bit of a transition as the team looks to get younger especially on the blue line, after watching the first 3preseason gms there are general concerns about the Hawks defensive core of Keith, Seabrook are 35,33 respectively and Connor Murphy it appears is out until December thus leaving the Hawks with not a lot of NHL experience back there.

Eric Gustafsson now has to assume a bigger role and be the quarterback on the powerplay. Eric has terrific offensive skills but his game in his own zone needs work. It appears one rookie that will make the team and that is Henri Jokiharju, a swift skating offensive minded defenseman. It also appears that 2018 1st rd pick Adam Boqvist, who has been impressive in camp may be headed to Rockford to start the season but Quenneville has also said that’s not a 100 percent formality yet so we shall see.

Offensively and up front Jonathan Toews, Brandon Saad need to have bounce back years and if they do along with Patrick Kane,Alex DeBrincat, Nick Schmaltz and the rest. The Hawks should be productive in the goal scoring department.

Goaltending may be the biggest concern right now. Is Corey Crawford coming back? And if so, when? Cam Ward is a quality goaltender but not sure he can carry a heavy workload in terms of games anymore and Anton Forsberg is nothing more then a journeyman goalie in this league so here’s hoping Crawford is completely healthy soon and give the Hawks the solid goaltending a team that may be weak on the blue line that it will need.
