Tar Heels Drop Shootout to Virginia
- Updated: November 3, 2019

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Virginia’s Bryce Perkins totaled 490 yards of offense to lead the Cavaliers to a wild 38-31 win on Saturday night at Keenan Stadium.
Perkins tossed three touchdown passes and added 112 yards rushing. With the win, the Cavaliers (6-3, 4-2 ACC) became bowl eligible for the third consecutive year.
He was the star of the game and gave Virginia the lead for good with a 65-yard touchdown run on the second play of the second half as he scrambled through North Carolina’s defense for the go-ahead score.
That play was part of a scoring binge that saw the Cavs score on four straight possessions after trailing 17-10 late in the second stanza.
North Carolina had an opportunity to re-tie the game, but Sam Howell’s fourth-down pass to Bear Corrales was incomplete.
Howell finished 15 of 29 for 353 yards and four touchdowns for the Tar Heels (4-5, 3-3). Dyami Brown caught six passes for a career-high 202 yards and three touchdowns for UNC.
This marks the eighth time in nine UNC football games that the decision came by seven points or less. UNC is 3-5 in those games.
Virginia host the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as they close the regular season with three straight home games while the Tar Heels play at Pittsburgh in a Thursday night tilt on November 14th.
