Coleman, 49ers Rip Panthers

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – 1990 was the last time the 49ers started the season 6-0.  It was also the last time the 49ers started the year 7-0.

You can add 2019 to both lists also.

Using 232 rushing yards and 5 rushing TDs the San Francisco 49ers ran past the Carolina Panthers 51-13 Sunday afternoon in the Bay.

Tevin Coleman paced the 49ers with 105 rushing yards and three rushing TDs.  Raheem Mostert and Deebo Samuel each added a rushing touchdown and the 49ers scored on all six of their red zone opportunities and produced 388 total yards of offense while holding the Panthers to 230 yards.

The 49ers wasted no time in getting started as the newest member of the team, Emmanuel Sanders caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Jimmy Garoppolo to cap a 75-yard, 11 play opening drive.

Carolina got on the board with a field goal with 4:28 left in the first quarter, only to have the Niners strike again as Tevin Coleman raced up the middle for 19 yards and another touchdown.

From that point, the rout was on.

Garoppolo connected with Coleman for a 10-yard touchdown before Coleman raced in from 48 yards out to make the score 27-3 at the half.

Christian McCaffrey was the lone bright spot for the Panthers carrying 14 times for 117 yards and a touchdown.  Kyle Allen finished the day 19-of-37 for 158 yards.  He unfortunately threw three interceptions.

It’s a short week for the 49ers as they travel to the desert to face an up-and-coming Arizona Cardinals team who lost to New Orleans on Sunday 31-9.
